What is Spiritual bliss?

Spiritual bliss is such a transcendental state in which you experience joy without any worldly apparent reason. Attaining it or explaining it is beyond our capacity. I say this because it is beyond the mind and intellect — our imagination cannot reach that far.

We cannot “attain” it, but we can merge into this infinite ocean of bliss, in which the self dissolves, and all the sufferings and afflictions of life come to an end. It is where a person, escaping the darkness of ignorance, becomes self-illuminated — and can also illuminate others with that wisdom

Spiritual bliss is not merely a satisfaction of the mind.

One thing you seekers always remember! Do not consider spiritual bliss to be an experience or a state that you can create through the power of your mind, and then enjoy as a result. It is not a mental imagination, nor is it a momentary wave of ordinary pleasure that you can feel from time to time. Spiritual bliss is not something that needs to be created or attained — it already exists; it was there even before your birth.

You can calm your mind for a while by explaining things to it. In that momentary calm, you may feel a kind of pleasure — but that is not spiritual bliss. That is merely mental pleasure, arising from a feeling of satisfaction or contentment. This kind of pleasure lasts only until the next desire of the mind arises.

In reality, any pleasure we receive in this world — whether through food, clothing, relationships, success, or praise — is merely a satisfaction of the mind, just a temporary glimpse. It is not any deep, lasting joy. Yet most people consider that to be the “ultimate happiness.” The only possible reason is — they have never experienced spiritual bliss, they are unaware of the taste of that true joy.

Think of it this way: earlier, when we looked at the universe with our eyes, we believed the sun was undoubtedly the brightest star. And it does indeed appear very bright, because it is closest to Earth. But when we explored the universe with devotion, it was revealed that there are stars thousands of times brighter than the sun.

The only reason for this discovery was that someone searched and found. If they had closed their eyes and assumed the sun was final, perhaps they would never have known about those wondrous stars.

Similarly, as long as we consider mental pleasure to be the ultimate, we will remain untouched by spiritual bliss.

Seek spiritual bliss later — first, come out of this illusion — why have you mistaken every shining thing to be gold? You will find gold only when you learn to recognize it; otherwise, you’ll just pick up anything and be done with it.

Now you may wonder: what is the difference between mental pleasure and spiritual bliss? How can one know the difference? Let’s clarify that.

In truth, spiritual bliss is not a “thing” in itself — it is simply freedom from the illusion of false pleasures. When you are freed from that illusion, sorrow too will certainly fall away. Sorrow is nothing but a craving for pleasure. When you recognize the false as false, you won’t need to search for the real — it is always available, it will make itself available to you.

You’ve just considered a trivial thing to be very big, and in trying to attain it, you are ruining your life. That fake pleasure of mental satisfaction runs ahead of you, and you keep chasing it. This cycle goes on for a lifetime. Sometimes you catch hold of it, but it slips away just as quickly. Actually, this comes from the fulfillment of mental desires — but the mind can never keep itself satisfied. It gets disturbed very easily, and sadness returns. Like day and night — sometimes joy, sometimes sadness.

True spiritual bliss is not obtained by fulfilling the mind’s desires. It comes from within. The mind has no use in it — in fact, the mind is quite useless in this matter, and often spoils things. Perhaps because it doesn’t like the idea that you might remain joyful all by yourself, so it constantly tries to confuse you. But don’t worry, it just cries, whines, and bothers you for a bit — then eventually gives up.

Spiritual bliss is pure joy. It does not come from the world built by the meeting of senses and mind. Your body, your mind, your senses — all belong to this world, but you yourself do not. Your true nature is beyond this world — it is pure consciousness, inherently blissful. That’s why it becomes necessary for you to go beyond this — and you will only be able to do so when you attain Self-realization.

Spiritual bliss is supreme because it is truth. It is not something made up by your mind. Whatever the mind creates in the form of thoughts, it does so with selfish motives. It seeks sensory pleasures or wants to protect its own existence — this is its nature, and it can be nothing more.

How can I attain spiritual bliss?

Your inner faith can lead you to spiritual bliss. But your faith should not be based on something created by the mind. Have faith in that which is beyond your control, whose play you cannot understand. If you trust in your mind’s imagination, nothing will happen — you will never reach where you are capable of reaching. So, use your capability in the right way.

Once you discover the right way to live, once you step on the right path where you gain awareness at every step, where you begin to recognize your true nature in this world — then you are on the right path. Your inner spiritual awareness will clearly distinguish truth from illusion.

This wondrous power of consciousness, your awareness, will lead you to your fullness — where there is no lie, no pretense — only you, as blissful consciousness itself. Then you will know: no happiness is truly yours, no sorrow is truly yours either.
